The fee for a copy of a crash report from  the Sheriff's Department is $8.00.
 
A copy can be picked up in person during regular business hours (M-F 8am-3:30pm), at the Sheriff's Department Office, located at 101 W Market Street, Columbia City. Feel free to call ahead (260-244-6410, option 2) to see if the report has been completed and is available. It is recommended that you bring the correct amount of money ($8.00 per copy), because we do not keep money for change on site. We do not accept personal checks. 
 
If you wish to request a copy by mail, please mail a certified check or money order for $8.00, made payable to "Whitley County Sheriff", to the: Whitley County Sheriff's Department, Attn: Records, 101 W Market Street, Columbia City, IN 46725. You will need to include a self-addressed, stamped, regular sized envelope so the report can be returned to you. Please include a written request for the crash report that includes as much information as you have available. We need to know the date the crash occurred, the time of day, the location, the driver(s) name, etc.
 
You can also access our crash reports online at www.buycrash.com. With a credit card, you can access and print the crash report at your convenience. (Note that the report is not available online until it has been processed by our office.)
